Abstract

In connection with the revolt of 1857-58, Harprasad Chattopadhyay and Shashibhushan Choudhary, like prominent Indian historians such as RC Majumdar, Surendranath Sen, KK Dutt, and Tarachand, felt the need for historiography on this event. Like Majumdar and Sen, Chattopadhyay's historiography on this rebellion was published in the year 1957 on the occasion of the centenary of the rebellion. Chattopadhyay has tried as much as possible to save all the aspects in the writing of this incident. The present research paper is an analysis of the historiography done by Chattopadhyay on this revolt, as well as a comparative study in a place with the historiography made or expressed by other historians and intellectuals on this event.
